After an extension of prayers and well wishes from the Nation for Jamaica’s Former Prime Minister and People’s National Party President Portia Simpson Miller affectionately called Mama P, who was recently hospitalized; PNP chairman Dr. Angela Brown-Burke revealed that the former PM is now recovering at home after being discharged from the hospital.
Brown-Burke who took over for Simpson Miller as the representative for St. Andrew Southwestern after the former prime minister left politics in 2017 shared how grateful she is to the public who expressed “their concern, their love, and their best wishes for the Honorable Portia Simpson Miller. We are pleased to say that she is recuperating at home and that all those prayers, concerns, and love that have been shown that they are well and truly appreciated.”

Simpson Miller, who became the first female prime minister of Jamaica in 2006, was recently taken recently by ambulance to a hospital in the Corporate Area for what the PNP described as “non-emergency care.” Nevertheless, the news that the well-known politician had been hospitalized sparked a flutter of worries both locally and throughout the diaspora, with many people leaving well wishes for her well-being on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and the Jamaica Observer website.
Brown-Burke stated, “I know in particular for the individuals from South West St Andrew, who have grown up with ‘Sister P’, grown up with Mama P, every time we hear something about her persons always want to know more. She really remains in their hearts. She has been a mainstay for many of them who have grown up knowing her as MP for Southwest St Andrew, and on their behalf as well, I know that they too are pleased to know that she is home and recuperating.”
