Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently departed the island to participate in Trinidad and Tobago’s inaugural Regional Security Conference.
According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the summit, which will also include representatives from other CARICOM nations, is being held as the area struggles to deal with an increase in transnational criminal activity.

The two-day conference, which will take place on April 17 and 18, will focus on crime and violence as public health issues. The event will take place with the slogan “The Crime Challenge: Nobody is safe until we are all safe.”
In order to address the issue, Holness suggested that regional leaders work together and treat crime as a health emergency.
The governing body of Trinidad & Tobago will host the summit in Port of Spain.
PM Holness is anticipated to return to Jamaica on April 19, 2023.
In the interim, Dr. Horace Chang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security will administer the government.
