Edmund Bartlett, the minister of tourism, has been dubbed a “Global Tourism Icon” by the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) in honor of what it claims is his “outstanding contributions to the tourism industry.”
PATWA stated in a statement on March 7, 2024, that the award, which was given on this month’s sixth, is evidence of Bartlett’s “relentless dedication to promoting sustainable tourism practices, fostering cultural exchange, and advancing the tourism sector on a global scale.”

“He has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at enhancing visitor experiences, building resilience, and creating economic opportunities for local communities through tourism,” it noted.”
After winning the award, Bartlett thanked PATWA for the honor and emphasized the value of group efforts in developing the travel and tourism sector as well as the significance of cooperation, creativity, and inclusion in influencing travel’s future.
“It has been my life’s mission to ensure that the tourism sector in Jamaica flourishes in terms of arrivals, earnings, economic growth and resilience,” said the tourism minister. “I am pleased that through public-private sector partnerships, we have not only weathered the most devastating period in global tourism history but have elevated Jamaica as a premier travel destination and also set a benchmark for excellence in the global tourism landscape.”
At the largest travel trade exhibition in the world, ITB Berlin, Bartlett is heading a group of Jamaicans.
ITB Berlin is seen as a key venue for the global tourist sector, fostering information and networking, with over 20,000 attendees anticipated this year.
