The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment, and Sport is organizing the annual Reggae Month events for February, which will begin on January 28 at the Fellowship Tabernacle with an official church service.
Although details on Reggae Month are still being finalized, one event that is being promoted is the Dancehall Street Parade, which is set to take place at the end of Dancehall Week 2024.

To become a recurring event during Reggae Month, it is a celebration of dancehall culture.
The goal of the Dancehall Street Parade is to appropriately showcase the genre in Jamaica, the origin of dancehall music. The parade in Kingston’s entertainment sector February 18, will mark the conclusion of the week-long celebrations that run from February 13 to February 19.
Dancehall Week coordinator Roxelle “Glammie” McKenzie said in a news release, “It’s about time we paid homage to the home-grown genre that has made an international impact, and we believe the world will take note of us here in Jamaica recognizing and celebrating the songs, the beats, the dances and the energy that is dancehall.”
The release further noted, “The Dancehall Week 2024 initiative has also acquired official endorsements from the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, as well as the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Corporation. The involvement of the dancehall fraternity is also an important factor in showing the unity among the stakeholders, including dancers, promoters, artists, service providers, media and sponsors, as well as working closely with the police and necessary agencies to ensure the seamless execution of the series.”
Dave Goldson, executive director for Dancehall Week stated “We are happy to see the media, artists, promoters and other stakeholders, showing their support to the initiative and we look forward to the continued support as we roll out our dancehall wear for the Street Parade and the week’s official event itinerary.”
The approved female dancehall attire for the Dancehall Street March has been revealed by Dancehall Week 2024, and the online registration site is now accessible to anybody interested in participating in the parade.
The Fashion RoadBlock on February 13 kicks off the festivities, which are then followed on Valentine’s Day, February 14, by the Breakfast Party Morning Bliss, and on Thursday, February 15, by Amour Dancehall.
A Dancehall Awards is being planned, although specifics are still unknown. I Love Dancehall and a Dancehall Sound Battle are two other events that are scheduled. Dancehall Street Parade is the week’s grand finale. On February 19, the Yacht Chill Cool Down Event will formally wrap up Dancehall Week.
