Antony Anderson, the former Commissioner of Police, has been named the Permanent Representative-designate of Jamaica to the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Ambassador-designate of Jamaica to the United States.
On March 13, 2025, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, issued a press statement announcing the appointment.

It is anticipated that Major General Anderson would shortly assume his position in Washington, DC, USA
She speaks on the effect Anderson’s appointment would have on the country’s security, stating, “We are very pleased that Major General Anderson will assume this role at a time when Jamaica looks to strengthen its security partnerships. His leadership and expertise will also be critical in advancing Jamaica’s wider priorities, fostering deeper collaboration with the United States while engaging strategically within the OAS. He will build on the strong foundation laid by Ambassador Audrey Marks, whose service has been instrumental in advancing our bilateral agenda”, Johnson Smith said.
She further noted that the former Commission of Police’s appointment “reflects Jamaica’s broader diplomatic approach which emphasizes experienced leadership in key ambassadorial roles.”
While further mentioning that “with a strong background in regional security coordination, Major General Anderson has facilitated joint security initiatives across the Caribbean, advising governments on national security frameworks and leading multinational security operations.”
Before becoming Jamaica’s first national security advisor, Anderson was the Chief of Defense Staff of the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF).
Anderson graduated from Cranfield University in the United Kingdom with a bachelor’s degree in engineering and the Royal Military College of Science in Shrivenham with a master’s degree in defense administration.
