On a slightly overcast afternoon on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the VP Cultural Center, 170-21 Jamaica Avenue, invaluable NEWS was presented at MEWS (Music Empowerment Workshop, and Showcase) about the legal aspects of the complex Music Business. The focused topics were Contract and Trademarks essentials, presented by expert Entertainment Attorney Mrs. Karen Wilson-Robinson and LeRoy Graham Jr. in front of a captivating audience, which included five visiting students, sponsored by the Vincent HoSang Family Foundation Inc. This was the second of a series of MEWS coordinated by LeRoy Graham Jr of True Tribute Organization Foundation Inc., with Vincent and Patricia Foundation Inc., and RaMed Studios.
The concept of MEWS is a result of an invitation to attend the 28th Carib News’ Caribbean Multinational Business Conference held at Sandals Ochi Beach Resort in Jamaica in 2023. Our music and culture has been extremely influential and economically impactful for many, except for those who were innovators, and pioneers. MEWS, is a means of “leveling the playing field” by providing essential fundamental knowledge of the volatile Music Business Industry, enabling young and upcoming artists to navigate towards greater benefits and a more rewarding future in the Entertainment Business.

After a very informative and interactive Workshop session, DJ Killaboo, from CaribStar, took management of the exciting Showcase portion of the event. The featured artists were Straight from RaMed Studios and Kyle Julian. Both artists captivated the eager audience with their unique vocal expressions of original songs that were well received and “brought the house down!”
The next MEWS event is scheduled for Saturday, September 07, 2024, at the RaMed Event Space, 92-22 Guy R Brewer Blvd, Jamaica, Queens from 1 pm to 3 pm. The focus topics are COPYRIGHTS & REVENUE SOURCE in the Music Business, and an EXCITING MUSIC SHOWCASE!!
