In honor of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Secretary-General António Guterres said in a statement, “The results are devastating: opportunities stolen; dignity denied; rights violated; lives taken and lives destroyed.”
He added, “Racism is rife, but it impacts communities differently.”

This year’s International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination theme exuberates the initiative and its – ‘A Decade of Recognition, Justice, and Development: Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent’.
“People of African descent face a unique history of systemic and institutionalized racism, and profound challenges today. We must respond to that reality – learning from, and building on, the tireless advocacy of people of African descent,” he remarked in his address.
“That includes governments advancing policies and other measures to eliminate racism against people of African descent. And tech firms urgently addressing racial bias in artificial intelligence.”
In order to create a world of justice, equality, and dignity for every community, everywhere, Guterres pressed everyone to commit to cooperating.
March 21, 1960, is the anniversary of the day the South African police opened fire on 69 protestors during a nonviolent rally against apartheid “pass laws.” This day is known as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
