NEW YORK, NY – Harlem Honors Awards (HHA), a non-profit organization dedicated to recognizing community influencers, is producing their 6th annual Harlem Honors award show at the world-renowned Apollo Theater in Harlem on July 15, 2023, 6PM. This year’s event, hosted by WBLS 107.5 FM radio personality Lenny Green, will honor the accomplishments of individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities and beyond.
AMONG THE 2023 HONOREES ARE:

Melba Wilson: A notable Harlem-based restaurateur, caterer, cookbook author, and Food Network personality. Referred to as the queen of soul food and comfort food, Wilson is a member of the COVID-19 Small Business Advisory Council and president of the NYC Hospitality Alliance’s board of directors.
Billy Mitchell: Known as Mr. Apollo, Mitchell has had a lifelong career at the Apollo Theater, evolving from errand boy for James Brown to his current roles as the theater’s tour guide, historian, and cherished icon.
Capone (Derrick Lee): Is best known as a comedian and former host of Amateur night at the Apollo theatre. Capone is a business man who lends himself to the community. Capone has worked with many of the great comedians. Capone used his vision to unite the Big Apple’s top five comedians (Capone, Talent, Gerald Kelly, Drew Frasier and Rob Stapleton) for the N.Y. Kings of comedy tour.
Guy Thomas Fisher: A former mobster and drug lord who became the first Black man to own and operate the Apollo Theater when he purchased it in 1977. Released from federal custody in 2020 on a medical pardon, Fisher’s life encapsulates a significant era in Harlem’s history.
Cordell Cleare: A prominent Harlem activist and Democratic Party politician, Cleare has been an influential figure in Harlem politics since the late 1990s and currently serves as the state senator for New York’s 30th State Senate district.
“This event is a celebration of the outstanding individuals who have made an indelible impact on our communities,” said Susan “Bunny” Southwell, founder of HHA and a respected community leader. “Each year, the Harlem Honors Awards show puts a spotlight on the crucial work and achievements of these incredible individuals.”
