Haitian police reported that at least three Haitian troops were murdered in what seemed to be a gang ambush on April 20, 2024, in a village outside of Port-au-Prince, the country’s capital.
Due to a conflict between Haitian law enforcement and the gang alliance known as Viv Ansanm, the Kenscoff neighborhood has been heavily targeted in recent days. As Haitian authorities and international troops work to curb gang fighting in the Caribbean nation, this is only the most recent outburst of bloodshed.

The troops perished “on the front line… weapons in hand,” according to a post from the Haitian government on the social networking site X.
The Haitian government noted in a statement, “These soldiers are not just members of our armed forces. They are worthy sons of the Nation, defenders of our sovereignty, whose ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten. Their commitment is a powerful reminder that freedom and security come at a price, and that this price is sometimes paid in the blood of our bravest.”
The soldiers were being transported to a combat zone in Kenscoff by a military reinforcement mission in an unarmored vehicle when they were brutally attacked by guys with heavy weapons, according to local media earlier in the day.
Social media users shared a video of camouflaged troops removing bodies from a vehicle.
