According to reports, six nuns were abducted on Friday while riding a bus through the nation’s capital.
Religious authorities claim in an Associated Press article that the nuns were abducted together with an unknown number of other unidentifiable people who were on the bus. According to a press release from the Haitian Conference of Religious, the nuns belong to the sisters of St. Anne Congregation.

The congregation reportedly did not reply to messages seeking comment, and the identity of the kidnappers was not immediately known, according to a news media house. For thousands of kidnappings, gangs who are thought to control 80% of Port-au-Prince have been held accountable.
The conference also said that too many individuals in Haiti are being kidnapped, which is consuming their souls “with sadness and fear.”
The nuns are the most recent well-known abduction victims in Haitian reports. Renowned Haitian physician Douglas Pape was kidnapped in Port-au-Prince in late November, according to AP News, and has not been freed even after several ransoms have been paid.
A US religious organization had 17 members kidnapped in October 2021; some of them were released after spending two months in captivity.
