A local media recently revealed that a formidable and feared gang boss in Haiti, who had previously taught math and physics, had died in a neighborhood inside the vast beachfront slum that he had ruled for years.
Concerns were voiced following the death of Iskar Andrice, also known as Iscar Andris, that the already high level of gang violence may worsen in the void left by his passing.

Esaïe Beauchard, a former mayor, informed Radio Galaxie FM that Andrice was the leader of the Belekou community in the Cite Soleil slum, where he passed away.
“It’s regrettable that this guy had to be involved in gang activity, because he’s a very intelligent man,” Beauchard noted.
The day Andrice passed away was not readily apparent.
The Associated Press called Cite Soleil’s current mayor, Jean-Frédérique Islain, but he declined to comment.
A new UN investigation claims that the group that Andrice commanded was engaged in rape, robbery, extortion, murder, and the kidnapping of vehicles and supplies. After that, he teamed up with well-known gang boss Jimmy Chérizier, also known as Barbecue, to establish the largest and most potent gang group in Haiti, the “G9 Family and Allies.”
Media interviews granted by Chérizier first had to be approved by Andrice.
Like other gang leaders, the UN said that Andrice created a social foundation in 2015 known as the Siloé Foundation to win over the community he controlled and present a positive image of himself.
According to a study by the organization National Human Rights Defense Network in Haiti, Andrice and other gang leaders were charged with organizing many violent raids in Haitian neighborhoods that were directed toward people.
Additionally, it was said that they crippled the nation last year by stopping operations at a major petroleum facility in Port-au-Prince, causing Haitian To present his initial appeal for the immediate deployment of a foreign military force, Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
