According to an authority, armed individuals recently opened fire on a hospital in Haiti, destroying an infant care unit and putting patients in “shock,” but without inflicting any injuries.
According to Dr. Reginald Ternier, the assailants held the perimeter of the Mirebalais hospital, one of the largest on the impoverished island, from midnight to 5:00 am that day.

At the hospital, around 30 miles (50 kilometers) from the capital Port-au-Prince, “This morning, we could see bullet holes on the facades of several buildings”
He said that large-caliber rounds had been discovered and that a neonatal critical care unit had also been damaged.
The incident did not result in any fatalities or gunshot wounds, but Ternier said that it disturbed those who went to the hospital for assistance.
She noted, “Patients, residents, and staff all experienced the attack in the middle of the night. They are in shock.”
“It’s difficult for us to understand the motives behind such an attack. We receive patients from all walks of life, regardless of their social rank, affiliation, or activities. We provide medical care to everyone,” she remarked.
In Haiti, known as the most impoverished Caribbean nation in the Western Hemisphere, armed gangs have taken over extensive tracts of territory as a result of interrelated public health, political, and economic crises.
According to the UN, since the beginning of the year, there have been more than 2,400 violent deaths there.
There have been demands for an international army to step in for some months, and earlier this month the United States said that up to a dozen nations had volunteered their help while committing its own logistical support.
Although participation from Jamaica, the Bahamas, and Antigua may not happen for months, Kenya has offered to command the force and has pledged to provide 1,000 security troops.
A community near Mirebalais, Saut d’Eau, was recently attacked by men with automatic guns.
Ruth Thelus, the mayor of the hamlet, told Radio Magik 9 on Sunday that there had been 11 fatalities, several injuries, and home fires.
There was no more information on any possible casualties, even though Saut d’Eau was supposedly the target of a subsequent attack.
