Major Haitian cities were shuttered due to protests, during which protesters fought with police and called for Prime Minister Ariel Henry’s resignation. A popular newspaper shared that protestors barricaded major roads with burning tires, impeding public transit, and forcing banks, schools, and government offices to close in Haiti’s northern and southern provinces.
Lesser protests were held in the capital city of Port-au-Prince, where hundreds of demonstrators allegedly assembled in front of Henry’s office before being dispersed by police using tear gas.

Additionally, it was rumored that former prime minister and presidential candidate Claude Joseph was present at the demonstrations. He was seen on camera supposedly wiping his face as his followers chanted, “We are not stopping!”
Henry’s resignation deadline is on February 7; therefore, Haiti is anticipated to see three days of protests.
