The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has secured a second consecutive term in government following Guyana’s 2025 General and Regional Elections, according to official tabulations released by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
On Wednesday, GECOM published the regional breakdown of votes, showing the PPP/C with a commanding lead in eight of the country’s ten regions. The governing party amassed 242,498 votes nationwide, well ahead of its closest challenger, the newcomer We Invest in Nationhood (WIN), which secured 109,066 votes.

The results confirm that President Irfaan Ali will remain in office, with the PPP/C maintaining strong support across its traditional strongholds while also consolidating gains in several contested areas.
By contrast, the main opposition party, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), saw its influence erode significantly, receiving 77,998 votes and failing to win a single region. Region Ten, historically an APNU bastion, was captured by WIN with 10,458 votes, signaling a major political shift. Smaller parties, including the Alliance for Change (AFC), the Assembly for Liberty Party (ALP), and the Forward Guyana Movement (FGM), collectively garnered fewer than 10,000 votes each.
The PPP/C’s dominance was most evident in Region Three, where it captured 48,055 votes against APNU’s 8,992 and WIN’s 12,969. In Region Four, Guyana’s largest and most politically pivotal constituency, the PPP/C secured 87,536 votes compared to APNU’s 46,956 and WIN’s 41,607.
Despite WIN’s impressive debut, its gains were not enough to dislodge the ruling party. Analysts note, however, that the new movement has disrupted the political balance, drawing voters away from both APNU and the AFC, and positioning itself as a potential long-term challenger to the PPP/C.
For APNU, the results represent a sharp decline from the 2020 elections, where it maintained considerable strength in several regions. Its collapse leaves the opposition landscape fragmented, with WIN emerging as the primary beneficiary of voter dissatisfaction.
With this outcome, President Ali and the PPP/C will continue to guide Guyana through a critical period marked by rapid economic growth from its expanding oil sector, while also facing rising demands for equitable development and transparent governance.
