The United States Department of State’s Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI) Fellowship Program is pleased to announce the Guyana-based group for 2024, by the U.S. Embassy.
YLAI was established in 2015 to enable young Western Hemisphere entrepreneurs to realize their full potential as economic contributors to the area.

280 young leaders from 37 Latin American, Caribbean, and Canadian nations will come together as part of this year’s YLAI fellowship program, which began in October 2023 and runs through April 2024.
Among the more than fifty local and international applications, we are happy to announce this year that three young leaders from Guyana—Brian Smith, Nakaida Belle-Lindie, and Shellon Lynch—have been admitted.
With a virtual Fellowship Leadership Curriculum and orientation, the 2024 YLAI Fellowship Program—which is supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs—unveiled itself in December.
Participants will be divided into cohorts in March and embark on four-week professional assignments with US companies in 19 different locations. They will participate in online and offline events, cross-cultural activities, and peer collaboration to tackle common business difficulties.
A Closing Forum will take place in April in Washington, D.C., to wrap up the program. The commercial relationships between the United States and Latin America, the Caribbean, and Canada are strengthened when fellows return to their endeavors with expanded networks, resources, and new skills from their counterparts in the United States.
