The Government of Guyana is preparing to introduce mobile government service centres in countries with large Guyanese populations abroad, a new initiative aimed at making essential public services more accessible to members of the diaspora.
President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali announced the plan during a town hall meeting with Guyanese nationals in Saint Lucia, saying mobile service teams will travel periodically to overseas communities, allowing citizens to access key government services without having to return home.

According to President Ali, the mobile units will offer a range of services, including the processing of National Insurance Scheme (NIS) matters, birth certificate applications and replacements, passport-related services, and other official government documents. The initiative is expected to begin with annual visits to countries that have the largest Guyanese diaspora, with the possibility of expanding the programme based on demand.
The proposed outreach programme forms part of Guyana’s broader digital transformation and diaspora engagement strategy. In recent years, the government has introduced several initiatives aimed at strengthening ties with overseas Guyanese, including plans to expand online public services, improve digital access, and explore free online educational opportunities through the University of Guyana for citizens living abroad.
President Ali said the government recognizes the important role the diaspora continues to play in Guyana’s rapid economic development through investment, skills transfer and financial support. He noted that bringing government services directly to overseas communities will reduce administrative burdens, improve convenience and reinforce the country’s commitment to maintaining strong connections with Guyanese wherever they reside.
