Grenada Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell has secured a second consecutive term in office after leading the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to a commanding victory in Thursday’s general election, winning 14 of the country’s 15 parliamentary seats.
Preliminary results from the November 5 poll show the NDC significantly expanding its parliamentary majority from nine seats in the 2022 election, leaving the opposition New National Party (NNP) with just one constituency.

The NNP retained St George North West, where its candidate, Dr Adrian Joseph, defeated the NDC challenger. The party, led by Emmalin Pierre, lost five of the six seats it held before the election.
The NDC secured approximately 61 percent of the valid votes, compared with 36.8 percent for the NNP, according to preliminary figures from the Parliamentary Elections Office. Voter turnout was approximately 63 percent, with more than 61,000 ballots cast.
The result marks a significant milestone for the NDC, which has now won consecutive general elections for the first time in its history. The party previously formed governments in 1990 and 2008 but lost power at the following elections.
Mitchell first became Prime Minister in June 2022 after the NDC defeated the administration of former Prime Minister Keith Mitchell, winning nine parliamentary seats to the NNP’s six.
Following Thursday’s victory, the Prime Minister is expected to continue pursuing his administration’s priorities, including economic development, infrastructure improvements, stronger healthcare services and reducing youth unemployment.
The election also represents a major setback for the NNP, which had sought to return to government under Pierre’s leadership.
Grenada’s 2026 general election was held across the country, including Carriacou and Petite Martinique, with 15 seats in the House of Representatives contested. The reported results remain subject to final official verification and certification.
