Sean Paul Henriques, a prominent Dancehall artiste whose fandom extends to an international level, will receive an honorary degree from the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) at its 2024 graduation ceremony.
The ceremony will take place on November 15, 2024. The “Temperature” singer will receive the Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa in recognition of his extraordinary musical accomplishments and his nation-building contributions.

The Grammy Award-winning artist is well-known for his unique vocal style, infectious beats, excellent production value, and outstanding live performances. With the success of his second studio album, Dutty Rock, which featured the Billboard Hot 100 songs “Gimmie the Light” and “Get Busy,” his musical career took off in 2002.
Sean Paul had attended UTech to pursue a degree in hotel and tourist administration, but he eventually left school early to pursue his love of music.
Among his numerous honors are the BET Award, the ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Award, the American Music Award, the MOBO Award, the Soul Train Award, the MTV Music Award, and the Source Award. As the only Jamaican musician to win the 2006 Favorite Pop/Rock Male Musician American Music Award, he stands alone in the industry.
Sean Paul was awarded the Order of Distinction by the Jamaican government in 2019 in recognition of his efforts to promote and popularize reggae music worldwide.
Significant Jamaican business magnate Christopher Zacca, who will earn the Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa, and former Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson, who will receive the Doctor of Technology Honoris Causa, are some of the other honorary graduates.
Dr. Kevin Brown, president of UTech, Jamaica, made the following remarks on the awards that would be given to these deserving Jamaicans: “The University of Technology, Jamaica is pleased to honor these distinguished nation-builders in recognition of their stellar contributions to Jamaica’s growth and development. Their dedication and impact serve as an inspiration to all, and we celebrate their achievements as we encourage our graduates to emulate their success.”
Graduation ceremonies at UTech, Jamaica will take place in Alfred Sangster Auditorium, Papine Campus, on November 15, 2024, and, November 16, 2024, starting at 10:00 am. Academic awards will be given on November 16, 2024, to graduates of the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies, the Faculty of Science and Sport, the Faculty of Business and Management, the Faculty of The Built Environment, and the Joint Colleges of Medicine, Oral Health and Veterinary Sciences, the College of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Law. On Friday, November 15, graduates of these schools will be recognized.
