What began as the talented YG Marley’s early afternoon performance on April 14, 2024, on the Coachella Main Stage swiftly evolved into an all-star lineup featuring other major hip-hop acts including the legend herself Ms. Hill.
A few minutes into the “Praise Jah in the Moonlight” performance, Marley introduced his mother Lauryn Hill, giving the rest of the evening over to a short procession of special guests who supported him throughout. Wearing a bright yellow costume, Ms. Hill performed a mini-set of her own, including her hits “Ex-Factor” and “Lost Ones,” in support of her son. Since Pras was nowhere to be seen, she turned on Fugees’ “Killing Me Softly” and welcomed Wyclef Jean, another band member, for a partial reunion.

Ms. Hill and Jean collaborated on the Fugees song “Fu-Gee-La” from 1995, pausing to introduce the following guest star, Busta Rhymes, who was accompanied by his regular sidekick Spliff Star. The Brooklyn rapper performed a fast-paced stanza from Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” along with a performance of “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See.”
They all gave a standing ovation to YG’s grandpa Bob Marley by performing excerpts of his songs “One Love” and “Exodus” while showcasing their superstar status on stage. As a clip from Marley’s “War” played over the sound system, Jean said, “Coachella, if you don’t want no more war in the world, put your hands in the air.”
After making his way through the thronging midday audience and showering them with affection, YG went backstage to replace Pras on “Ready or Not” with his mother and Jean. “This is what you get when you put YG Marley and the Fugees together,” Jean said. After performing a rendition of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love,” YG ran through his debut hit, which is now rising on social media and generating waves.
