Former CNN anchor Don Lemon says he is seriously considering a run for the White House in 2028, arguing that he has the leadership qualities needed to serve as president despite never having held elected office.
Speaking during an appearance on the Can’t Be Censored podcast, Lemon revealed that repeated encouragement from supporters has prompted him to give the idea genuine consideration. While emphasizing that he has not formally entered the race, he said he believes he could effectively lead the country if he ultimately decides to seek the presidency.

“People keep asking me to do it, and I’m actually thinking about it seriously,” Lemon said.
The veteran journalist also expressed confidence in his ability to govern, telling the podcast audience:
“I think I would be a really good president.“
Lemon, who spent nearly two decades at CNN before launching his independent media platform in 2023, acknowledged that he lacks traditional political experience. However, he argued that recent U.S. elections have demonstrated that prior public office is not necessarily a prerequisite for the presidency. He said effective leadership depends more on judgment, surrounding oneself with capable advisers and listening to experts than on having an extensive political résumé.
The broadcaster has become an outspoken political commentator since leaving CNN, frequently criticizing President Donald Trump and weighing in on issues including immigration, civil rights, media freedom and democracy. Lemon indicated that, if he were to run, he would likely seek the Democratic Party’s nomination despite currently being registered as an independent.
He also acknowledged the practical challenges of mounting a national campaign, particularly the need to raise substantial financial support. Lemon said fundraising remains one of the biggest obstacles for anyone considering a presidential bid and suggested he would prefer a campaign driven by grassroots support rather than major corporate donors.
Although the 2028 presidential election is still more than two years away and no formal campaign has been announced, Lemon’s remarks have fueled speculation about whether the longtime television journalist could join what is expected to be a crowded Democratic primary field. Political analysts note that while celebrity and media personalities have increasingly entered politics in recent years, any potential candidacy would still face significant organizational and fundraising hurdles before reaching the national stage.
