Gabriel Tolliver‘s new scripted pilot Dolla Van which was officially selected for both the American Black Film Festival (2023) and Caribbean Lenes International Film & Art Festival (2023), shows the trials and tribulations of Trinidadian siblings’ new dollar van service, featuring colorful and diverse passengers, reflecting the diversity of Brooklyn.
Dolla Van explores the complex realities of first-generation Americans, gentrification’s impact on communities, and the vibrant West Indian culture. The pilot speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit one must have in the ever-changing city. In addition to the siblings, characters include a veteran who has been priced out of his apartment, a young recent translate couple, and a man claiming to be King Solomon, among others, painting a picture of Flatbush Ave today.

Dollar Van stars Jordana Persad (Don’t Pass the Peppa Sauce) and Khalid Hamid (owner of Island Pops). The pilot will be released on BRIC TV on January 29, 2025, and the trailer will be shared as part of the Stoop Share 2025 – BRIC Film Festival on February 13, 2025, at BRIC (647 Fulton Street Brooklyn).
