Billboard has selected rising rap prodigy Doechii their 2025 Woman of the Year, following in the footsteps of last year’s laureate Karol G, SZA, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift. Only a month prior, the “Denial is A River” rapper became the third woman to win the Grammy for best rap album, and this accolade follows that achievement.
She started crying as soon as she gave her award speech. “This category was introduced in 1989. Two women have won, Lauryn Hill —” she corrected herself, “Three women won. Cardi B, Doechii, and Lauryn Hill.

On March 29, 2025, Doechii will receive the Woman of the Year award at the Billboard Women in Music Awards. Previous recipients include Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Cardi B, Madonna, and Selena Gomez.
In a statement, Hannah Karp, Editor-in-Chief of Billboard, said, “Doechii is taking pop culture by storm, becoming the third woman in history to win a Grammy for best rap album this year, and dazzling fans of every musical genre with her breathtaking performances, ultra-candid lyrics, and utterly unique sound, style, and spirit.” Karp added, “We are thrilled to celebrate Doechii and cheer on her continued success.”
Aespa, Ángela Aguilar, Erykah Badu, GloRilla, Gracie Abrams, Blackpink’s Jennie, Megan Moroney, Meghan Trainor, Muni Long, and Tyla are among the other award recipients at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, which will be hosted by Laverne Cox and broadcast live on March 29 at 7 p.m. at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles.
