He later earned a PhD in the UK and Denmark in 1968, before joining the OVC faculty in 1969. Over 36 years, he taught countless students, conducted influential research, and served in various leadership roles, including chair, dean of graduate students, and interim dean of OVC.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Gyles represented veterinary medicine as a founding Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences in 2005 and served on its board. He also served as editor-in-chief of the Canadian Veterinary Journal from 2008 to 2020, further cementing his legacy as a leading voice in the field.
