As the West Indian Day Parade approaches this coming weekend and partygoers prepare for the festivities surrounding the celebration, the NYPD is saying that security will be super tight so if anyone has any bad intentions, the message is don’t even think about it.

The celebrations have had a history of violence – shootings, stabbings – but the NYPD says,
“Last year was the most successful Labor Day on record and we intend to achieve the same results this year.”
The parade starts at 6am on Labor Day.
“Everybody who does participate and attend will be subject to search. We will be utilizing drones. For example, if we have any 311 calls to our non-emergency that states a large crowd, large party in a back yard, we will using our resources to go check on that party.”
The NYPD says the police will not be heavy-handed, but will be firm. They say the law will be applied if they have but fair give people breaks, be compassionate, make an arrest if we have to…firm but fair. They want everyone to have a celebratory weekend.
