The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) announced that Bob Marley & The Wailers’ Legend has
achieved 15× Platinum certification in the UK, signifying sales and streaming figures exceeding
4.5 million units, up from 14× Platinum (4.2 million) in August 2022.
With a 15× Platinum rating, Legend is currently tied with Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Dire
Straits’ Brothers in Arms is the sixth best-selling album in London history. With 23× Platinum,
Queen’s Greatest Hits is the best-selling album in the UK. Gold: Greatest Hits by ABBA comes
in second with 22× Platinum, and Adele’s 21 and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band came
in third with 18× Platinum respectively.

Island Records published the album in 1984, three years after Marley’s death, and it is still a
popular choice among listeners.
In terms of chart longevity, it is presently in its 1169th week at No. 58 on the UK Albums Chart,
which is an incredible accomplishment that is only surpassed by ABBA’s Gold: Greatest Hits
(1184 weeks).
Classics including “Three Little Birds,” “Is This Love,” and “Could You Be Loved” are among the
10 of Marley’s top 40 UK singles that are featured on Legend. I Shot the Sheriff, Get Up, Stand

Exodus) is currently certified Gold in the UK for moving 400,000 units each, while Get Up
Stand Up (from Burnin’), Exodus, I Shot The Sheriff (from Burnin’), and Satisfy My Soul (from
Kaya) are certified Silver for 200,000 units each.
Legend is also currently certified 18X Platinum in the United States, Diamond in France (1
million units), Platinum in Germany (500,000 units), 6X Platinum in Australia (420,000 units),
20X Platinum in New Zealand (300,000 units), 4X Platinum in Argentina (240,000), 2X Platinum
in Canada (200,000 units), and 4X Platinum in Belgium.
