Bermuda’s government is having trouble resuming operations after a significant hack.
Premier David Burt recently stated that the government is attempting to determine what transpired and how, but he was unable to go into further detail due to issues of national security.

He noted, “It is clear that this was a sophisticated and deliberate attack that has resulted in unprecedented stress on basic government systems.”
According to Burt, the attack happened Wednesday night and was discovered the following morning.
He noted that essential services including transportation, education, and the island’s hospital have been functioning smoothly. Burt claimed that the full restoration of all services may take a few weeks.
Burt characterized the attack as “significant” due to its scale, extent, and nature.
Burt said the inquiry is still underway and it was unclear if confidential material had been exposed. Furthermore, it is uncertain if the perpetrators of the incident are seeking a ransom. During a news conference, Burt declined to provide a response.
The government’s email system was down, according to a popular media outlet, which also noted that the state organizations affected included the Department of Planning, which was unable to handle new applications. Burt characterized the attack as “significant” due to its scale, extent, and nature.
