Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley has announced that Barbadians will head to the polls on February 11, 2026, following her decision to call a snap general election.
The announcement was made on Thursday at Westbury Primary School during the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) nomination event for the City of Bridgetown constituency. Attorney-at-law Michael Lashley, who defected from the Democratic Labour Party last year, was the sole nominee and officially secured his candidacy, completing the BLP’s full slate of 30 candidates.

Addressing party supporters to loud applause and the ringing of celebratory bells, Mottley revealed that she earlier visited the President of Barbados, His Excellency Jeffrey Bostic, at State House to formally request the dissolution of Parliament.
She also instructed Attorney General Dale Marshall, who was in attendance, to begin preparations for issuing the election writs, formally triggering the electoral process.
According to the timeline outlined by the Prime Minister, Parliament will be dissolved on January 19, while Nomination Day has been set for January 27. Voters will then cast their ballots just over two weeks later on February 11.
The snap election sets the stage for another political showdown as the ruling BLP seeks a renewed mandate from the electorate amid ongoing economic and social challenges.
