On October 19, Dr. Reynold SK Jarvis, popularly known as the Mighty Rover, a well-known calypsonian from Antigua and Barbuda, graduated with a Doctor of Business Administration from UWI Cave Hill campus in Barbados.
Dr. Jarvis is suggesting that the Ministry of Education designate October each year as “October, Antigua and Barbuda, month of Academic Excellence” in order to measure and build the nation’s academic capacity at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. He notes that another graduate who acquired her doctorate from the UWI Mona Campus, Jamaica, instead walked the ceremonial road at UWI Five Islands on October 12, 2024.

In a recent statement he noted, “This would offer inspiration and motivation to many in our society to achieve which may help to negate negative societal behaviors.”
“The opportunity should be grasped now that UWI Five Islands is permanently with us and in its infant stage of development and having a graduation ceremony every October along with all other campuses.”
Notably, the proposal also falls on the same day as the nation’s annual countdown to its Independence Day, which culminates on November 1.
To commemorate Antigua and Barbuda’s independence in 2024, Mighty Rover author Dr. Reynold Jarvis has given his most recent book, “Change the Oath of Allegiance.”
