The government of Antigua and Barbuda has successfully negotiated with the government of the United States of America regarding its request for a permit to move forward with the unrestricted sale of the Super Yacht Alfa Nero, according to Sir Ronald Sanders, the country’s ambassador to the United States of America, who recently made the announcement.
The US Department of the Treasury granted the Government of Antigua and Barbuda permission to “participate in the Government of Antigua and Barbuda auction of the vessel M/Y Alfa Nero” on May 18. This permission was granted under license number RUSSIA-EO14024-2023-1060959-1.

Additionally, “transactions that include but are not limited to, bidding on the purchase of the vessel; paying deposits; and providing financing, insurance, or funding in connection with the purchase” are permitted under this clause.
The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, made this announcement in the National Assembly of Antigua and Barbuda today. It gives the Port Authority of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda permission to sell the Alfa Nero by auction to anyone who is not on a prohibited list and who has submitted an application for and has been granted a license from the US Treasury to conduct financial transactions involving the vessel.
According to what is known, a number of potential bidders have already been granted individual licenses by the US Treasury Department.
An authorized withdrawal of the Alfa Nero from the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) list maintained by the US Treasury is one of the matters that are still being pursued, according to Ambassador Sanders. Despite the license allowing the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to move forward with the auction and sell the vessel, other issues still need to be resolved.
“This entire process broke new ground; there were no rule books or patterns to follow,” the Ambassador said. In this regard, a little state has accomplished a lot.
