Ambassador Andrew Young is expected to be keynote speaker at the United Nations in New York on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in observance of Nelson Mandela International Day. Young, now 91, served as U.S. Ambassador to the UN under President Jimmy Carter from 1977 to 1979.Ambassador Young also was among those who played a key role in bringing about an end to apartheid in South Africa and freeing Nelson Mandela from over 27 years of political imprisonment.
