Alsion Roach-Wilson, Jamaica’s Consul General, has passed, leaving a community stunned, saddened, and in deep mourning. Since assuming office in July 2019, she served with unmatched dynamism, engagement, and devotion—bringing to her role an energy and efficiency that made her stand out in every space she occupied. She was ever-present, ever-committed, and ever-ready to serve, attending events across the region and beyond with the same purpose: to uplift Jamaica and its people.
But Alsion’s service did not begin with her official title. Decades before she was formally appointed Consul General, she was already doing the work—mobilizing investment for Jamaican projects, engaging in philanthropic efforts across sectors, and advocating tirelessly for Jamaica’s development. This was her passion, her calling, and her priority, and she lived it wholeheartedly.

Years ago, when Carib News operated out of Manhattan, our offices were within walking distance of hers. Many days, spontaneous conversations—sometimes in the hallway, sometimes right on the street corner—turned into meaningful discussions about Jamaica’s needs and how we could collectively respond. She was never short of ideas, never short of projects, never short of vision. She was always already involved, already committed, already pushing forward.
Alcyon frequently attended Carib News Editorial Board meetings, where her insights—particularly on finance, business, and philanthropy—were always sharp and forward-looking. And when she asked to bring a guest, you could be certain that person would be someone purposeful, well-positioned, and ready to contribute to Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. This was her gift: she connected people, she connected vision, and she connected purpose.
In her calm, firm, and quietly commanding way, Alcyon earned a reputation as someone who got things done. A woman of action, a reservoir of resources, and a wellspring of ideas, she leaves behind a legacy deeply planted—one that Jamaica and Jamaicans will continue to benefit from for generations to come. Her impact is lasting, her contributions immeasurable, and her patriotism undeniable.
Alsion Roach-Wilson was a true patriot, a devoted servant of her country, and a joyful warrior for her people. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched, the initiatives she championed, and the example she set.
Alsion, walk good. For now, rest a while.
