Albums by The Wailers and Grace Jones have been celebrated by Rolling Stone magazine, earning spots on the prestigious 100 Best Album Covers of All Time list, revealed on July 18.
The Wailers’ “Catch A Fire” originally featured a cover designed by Rod Dyer and Bob Weiner. This was later replaced with an iconic image of Bob Marley smoking a spliff, captured by Esther Anderson and designed by John Bonis. Ranking at #70 on the Rolling Stone list, “Catch A Fire” was released in 1973 via Island Records. The album was recorded in London at the Island Records studio and in Jamaica at Harry J, Dynamic Sounds, and Randyās recording studios.

Grace Jones’ “Nightclubbing” (1981) is ranked at #70 on the list. The iconic photo of Jones in an Armani suit with a cigarette hanging from her lips reflects the intense personal and professional relationship between her and photographer Jean-Paul Goude. Released by Island Records, “Nightclubbing” is Jonesās fifth studio album, recorded at Compass Point Studio in the Bahamas. The album features contributions from notable musicians including Mikey Chung (guitar), Sly Dunbar (drums), Robbie Shakespeare (bass guitar), and Uziah Thompson (percussion).
“Nightclubbing” was named Album of the Year by the writers of British music magazine NME. It was produced by Island Records’ Chris Blackwell and Alex Sadkin.
