It is profoundly fitting that my great friend and senior mentor, the Honorable Congressman Charles B. Rangel, transitioned on Memorial Day—Monday, May 25th. A decorated U.S. Army veteran and recipient of the historic Purple Heart for his courageous leadership during the Korean War in the 1950s, Congressman Rangel dedicated his life to service, sacrifice, and the empowerment of others.
Known to thousands as the “Lion of Lenox Avenue,” Rangel was one of the most effective and productive members of the U.S. Congress over the past half-century. His legacy extends far beyond Washington, D.C. He will be remembered internationally—in South Africa, the Caribbean Basin, Latin America, Korea, and throughout urban communities in the United States. But most of all, his spirit will live on in his beloved home, “The Village of Harlem,” where his passion and advocacy made a lasting difference.

To honor his remarkable legacy, the Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Carib News and others, will celebrate “Our Congressman” during HARLEM WEEK on Sunday, August 17th. Further details will be shared in the coming weeks.
