Born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Randall Ryan spent his early years in Trinidad and Tobago, the homeland of his parents, living on both islands before returning to the United States as a teenager. The son of an educator father and a mother who was a Registered Nurse, both in Trinidad and at Beekman Hospital and University Hospital at Downstate in Brooklyn, Dr. Ryan was profoundly influenced by his parents and his multicultural upbringing, which helped shape his commitment to service, healthcare,
and community engagement.
Dr. Ryan began his healthcare career in 2008 after earning an Associate Degree in Nursing from Medgar Evers College. He continued his education at the New York City College of Technology, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor, helping to educate the next generation of healthcare professionals.

He later earned both his Masters and Doctoral degrees from SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. His clinical career included serving as a Nurse Practitioner in the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Maimonides Medical Center. Building on his clinical expertise and leadership abilities, he transitioned into administration and currently serves as Director of Clinical Operations for the Heart and Vascular Institute at Maimonides Medical Center.
A passionate advocate for volunteerism and global health, Dr. Ryan has participated in numerous humanitarian missions. He served as a first responder during the devastating Haiti earthquake in January 2010 and has returned to Haiti on multiple occasions to provide medical support. In addition, he is part of a dedicated team of healthcare professionals, many affiliated with Maimonides Medical Center, who regularly travel to Georgetown, Guyana, to perform life-saving open-heart surgeries.
Dr. Ryan considers his career in healthcare and his experiences at Maimonides Medical Center to be both professionally rewarding and personally fulfilling. Through patient care, education, leadership, and humanitarian service, he remains committed to improving health outcomes both locally and internationally.
Why are you and Maimonides proud of the Heart and Vascular team?
Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn NY, where I currently serve as the Director of Clinical Operations for the Heart and Vascular Institute, is ranked among the top 1% of hospitals in the United States for overall mortality measures by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). I am proud that distinction reflects the dedication and expertise of the Heart and Vascular Institute, whose physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and support staff provide specialized and life-saving care to the diverse communities of Brooklyn. As a team member for over 15 years, whose heritage is from the island of
Trinidad and Tobago, I am not only proud of these accomplishments, but also proud of our dedication and service to the large local Caribbean population.
Through advanced cardiac and cardiovascular interventions such as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), Aortic Dissection Repair, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) implantation, and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Maimonides has earned recognition as a high-performing institution in the treatment of heart attack, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, and pacemaker implantation. These accomplishments have not only contributed to national recognition for
clinical excellence but have also helped preserve and improve the lives of countless New Yorkers of Caribbean descent who we continue to be proud to serve.
Why should a patient seek treatment with you and your team?
Patients should seek care at the Maimonides Heart and Vascular Institute not only when experiencing symptoms of cardiovascular disease, but I am a strong advocate for every patient deserving access to some of our region’s most experienced experts in the field of cardiac care, management and surgery. Our multidisciplinary team of health professionals are caring, compassionate, culturally congruent and representative of the diverse communities we serve. Many of us have Caribbean or other foreign family affiliations that allow us to better identify with our patients’ personal beliefs and cultural needs. As a patient-centered organization, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive assessments, accurate diagnoses, and individualized treatment plans that respect each patient’s unique needs, values, and life experiences. My confidence in this organization is reflected not only in my years of service but also in my willingness to entrust the care of friends and family members to Maimonides. Few endorsements are stronger than recommending the people you care about most, and I do so with complete confidence in our team and the quality of care we provide. At Maimonides, we have a lot of heart – and it shows!
