This year’s 40th Independence Anniversary will be celebrated under the theme “Growing Sustainably, Developing Maturely, Building Resiliency: Independence 40”. The theme was chosen from over four hundred entries that were submitted and won by Reverend Damien E. Hughes of Challengers Village, St. Kitts.
Prime Minister, Terrance Drew, unveiled the theme in May, chosen from over 400 entries submitted.

Hughes will be rewarded with official invitations to all major Independence events organized by the government. His winning theme will also be incorporated into all communications and events surrounding the Independence celebrations.
St. Kitts/Nevis Independence Day will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 19, 2023.
The General Post Office is preparing to unveil a series of commemorative stamp designs to observe St. Kitts and Nevis’ 40th Independence anniversary celebration.
The four designs chosen will feature on stamps of varying denominations. The 10-cent stamp will feature a collage of the Federation’s five National Heroes, while the 30-cent stamp will showcase an image of Independence Square. A $30 stamp will highlight the Berkeley Memorial commonly known as the Circus while the $100 stamp will feature the statue of the First National Hero, the late Right Excellent Sir Robert L. Bradshaw mounted in St. Paul’s.
“Persons who are avid stamp collectors … [can] look forward to putting something like this into their collection,” said Co-chair of the Independence 40 Planning Committee, Dr. Marcus Natta.
The digital design of the stamps is expected to be introduced this month while the actual physical copies will be available in the near future.
