Philadelphia based R&B recording artist Jimmy Dennis will be in New York City on May 4th.
The Belafonte Family Foundation has announced that their inaugural Gala, to be held on that day, will be honoring Dennis, a man who spent over twenty five years as an innocent man on death row. His case is the legal precedent in the country and has had an incredible impact on the American justice system. Because of Jimmy Dennis, many other innocent people, as well as those who have had their constitutional rights violated have since been freed and returned to their families.

A Belafonte Family Foundation spokesperson had this to say about the celebrity studded upcoming gala event in New York City honoring this inspiring man.
“Our inaugural Gala will take place high in the sky, overlooking the downtown Manhattan skyline, opening with drinks and hors d’oeuvres on a private outdoor marble terrace with a gorgeous view of the water, closing with an intimate after party.”
Jimmy Dennis, who is managed by NYC based Consuelo Vanderbilt, is also a multi talented R&B musician, composer and recording artist. His rising career was interrupted in 1991 when he was stolen away from his life and family, wrongly convicted of murder. This led to a 25 year nightmare as a factually innocent man on death row. He was ultimately released in 2017.
Jimmy had this to say when he heard that he would be honored at the Belafonte Foundation Gala : “I am deeply honored and delighted to be honored by the Belafonte family. Mr Harry Belafonte is a civil rights icon who risked his life and put his career on the line for all Black and Brown people to fight for what was right in this country, and I hold a special place in my heart for him forever.”
The legendary Harry Belafonte is an icon known for his decades of work in American civil rights. Continuing this work, The Belafonte Family Foundation creates access and opportunity for historically underserved, marginalized youth, adults and communities across racial, gender, and economic lines, offering progressive programming and resources with a demand for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
