Dr. Garvey, a retired vascular surgeon, remains very active in his advanced age, traveling the nation and globe on a regular basis. In addition to his activities on several fronts, he is the head of the Marcus Garvey
Foundation in addition to the Marcus Garvey Bronze Project (MGB).
The MGB Project is an effort by several grassroots community groups to have a bronze statue of The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey placed at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Proceeds from this event will go towards the MGB Project. You can learn more about and also make donations to this effort by going to www.marcusgarveybronze.com.
The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey was born on August 17, 1887, in St. Ann’s Bay, Jamaica. He was the
foremost Pan-African leader with an estimated 6 million members and followers in close to a thousand chapters (996) across the United States (725) and the globe (271-3). Because of the radical, rational, and fanatical pursuit of his organized vision of a United States of Africa, he and his organization, the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) and the African Communities League (ACL), were infiltrated, undermined, targeted, and destroyed by the US government under the direction of J. Edgar Hoover and the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI).
Marcus Garvey was unjustly imprisoned and deported from the US, thus unable to rebuild his organization. Garvey died in London, England on June 10, 1940, at the age of 52.
There is a ten-dollar admission fee for this event. The community can learn more about participating in this
