“Restoring peace to our communities by protecting our residents and creating safe spaces must always remain a top priority,” said New York City Council Member Kevin C. Riley.
“I am happy to announce $675,000 in funding to provide NYCHA development, Gun Hill Houses, with security cameras that aim to increase safety and enhance the quality of life of residents and the surrounding community. Seeking to directly address ongoing concerns from community members, the presence of added security cameras will aid in curbing the increase of unlawful and violent incidents in the area while giving neighbors the peace of mind they deserve to feel safe in their neighborhood.”
Allocated for FY23, Council Member Kevin C. Riley pushed for $675,000 in capital funding for the installation of security cameras on the grounds of NYCHA Gun Hill Houses development.
This initiative took height in response to a shooting incident on Magenta St. in January 2022, in which a bullet struck a daycare on White Plains Rd located in the NYCHA development. With the rise of violence and crime across New York City, Council Member Riley seeks to address this issue by enhancing the safety of the residents and the surrounding
District 12 community. The funding for this project was solely provided by Council Member Riley, and now the project awaits completion through New York City Housing Authority.
Currently, New York City families in our underserved communities are in crisis and are seeking help to protect their loved ones. Changing the trajectory of public safety in our communities is a collaborative effort. Council Member Kevin Riley sees the importance in inviting all stakeholders to the table to impact a positive future for District 12. During his presentation, Council Member Riley reaffirms these efforts and acknowledges the partnership of Gun Hill Houses Tenant Association Resident Robert Hall and his assistant, Maria Waring, for their continued advocacy on this project and for the comprehensive needs of Gun Hill Houses residents.
“As President of Gun Hill, I am proud of this recent Security Acquisition by Councilman Kevin Riley,” said Gun Hill Houses T.A.
President Robert Hall. “This is an example of how Section 9 enables T. A. Presidents to work closely with their elected officials to enhance the lifestyle of Housing Residents.”
