Jamaican artist Michael Atkinson, better known by his stage name Nervz, believes that the government must act quickly to integrate Marcus Garvey’s principles into the country’s educational system.
“We need to know the truth and more about our great Marcus Garvey in schools. We need this history to change the mindset of our people because teaching Garvey’s philosophies can impact the minds of students, and help them to become decent citizens,” added the entertainer.

“If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life,” is Nervz’s favorite Marcus Garvey quote.
Marcus Mosiah Garvey was a political activist, publisher, journalist, businessman, and public speaker from Jamaica. He was the first president-general of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League (UNIA-ACL, often known as UNIA), which he founded. Through this organization, he declared himself the interim leader of Africa. 1940 saw his passing. In 1969, Jamaica recognized Garvey as a national hero after his passing.
According to Nervz, the time is right to spread awareness of Black History.
“Yes, the youths affi know the roots. We are a nation of greatness, let’s remain that way and regain the pride, and dignity of being Jamaican,” The talented artist, who was born in Kingston, agreed.
In order to promote Heart of a Lion, Nervz released images on February 1.
“Heart of a Lion is based on my journey right now. I’ve been receiving numerous amounts of ‘fight’ from family, friends, and haters. It drives me as motivation to go harder. Dem fraid a greatness; a me a di definition a champion. Every ghetto yute can be great, a just belief,” he stated.
Growing up in St. Catherine and attending Willowdene High School, where he first developed an interest in music, Nervz has amassed a respectable underground fan base with his hit songs Brawling, Chappa Fi True, Polo for Days, and Banga Tone. Through a number of well-known mixtapes including Street College, Banga Tone, and Brawling, he has regularly published music on several digital platforms.
