The Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is stepping up efforts to engage the countryās diaspora in New York, seeking to turn strong community ties into new opportunities for trade, investment and national development.
The initiative formed part of a recent outreach to Vincentians in Brooklyn, where government representatives highlighted opportunities for members of the diaspora to invest in businesses and projects at home while helping Vincentian products reach wider international markets. The government has identified diaspora engagement as an important component of its economic development strategy.

The outreach comes as St. Vincent and the Grenadines works to strengthen its connections with citizens living overseas and encourage them to contribute capital, expertise and business networks to the local economy. The countryās foreign affairs ministry is responsible for international trade, foreign investment and diaspora engagement, reflecting the governmentās broader effort to link these areas.
New York is a particularly important market because of its established Vincentian community, with Brooklyn serving as a major centre of Vincentian life in the United States. Government officials are seeking to build on those longstanding connections by encouraging diaspora members to explore investment opportunities and commercial partnerships in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The strategy is also connected to a broader national programme aimed at using the diaspora to support trade and investment. Earlier this year, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) announced support for a programme titled āEngaging the Vincentian Diaspora in National Development Through Trade and Investment,ā designed to strengthen the role of Vincentians overseas in the countryās economic development.
For local producers and businesses, stronger diaspora links could provide access to new customers, distribution networks and investment capital abroad. Government officials have also been promoting Vincentian products internationally, including through initiatives involving the countryās Diaspora Affairs Unit and trade partners in New York.
The government hopes the approach will move diaspora relations beyond cultural and community activities and toward sustained economic partnerships. By tapping into the financial resources, professional expertise, and international networks of Vincentians overseas, St. Vincent and the Grenadines is seeking to create additional avenues for business growth and investment while strengthening the contribution of the diaspora to national development.
