Times Square will once again become a showcase for Caribbean culture as Tropicalfete hosts its fifth annual Caribbean Pop-Up Carnival on Sunday, August 30.
The free, family-friendly celebration will take place from 1 p.m. along Broadway between West 46th and West 47th Streets, bringing the sights and sounds of Carnival to one of New York City’s busiest public spaces.

Organized by Brooklyn-based nonprofit Tropicalfete, the event will feature live Caribbean music, dance, masquerade costumes and cultural performances. Soca star Rupee is scheduled to headline, while international violinist Mapy is also among the featured performers. Riddim Explosion will provide live rhythm-section entertainment, with DJs Patrick and Eric supplying additional music.
Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in Carnival costumes and bring their national flags, adding to the event’s celebration of the Caribbean diaspora and its diverse cultural traditions.
The programme will also include a soca fitness session led by Mandy, hosted segments by Vibes Man Redman and Katherine Charles, Esq., and other interactive activities designed to engage both Caribbean communities and visitors.
Tropicalfete says the annual pop-up has attracted thousands of residents, tourists and cultural enthusiasts over the years. The organization uses music, dance, costume, steelpan and other art forms to promote Caribbean heritage and provide cultural programming for communities in New York.
The Times Square celebration forms part of a wider effort by Caribbean organizations in New York to bring the region’s cultural traditions into mainstream public spaces. Carnival has long been an important expression of Caribbean identity in the city, particularly through the large annual celebrations in Brooklyn.
For Tropicalfete, taking Carnival to Times Square offers another opportunity to highlight the creativity and cultural influence of Caribbean communities while introducing the traditions of the region to an international audience.
The fifth annual Caribbean Pop-Up Carnival is free and open to the public, continuing Tropicalfete’s effort to make Caribbean cultural experiences accessible to New Yorkers and visitors alike.
