Held over July 31 and August 1 at Soca Island in Point Fortin, the launch celebrated Caribbean culture through cuisine, music, and traditions. The milestone was enhanced by a partnership with the House of Angostura; this collaboration introduced an exciting new chapter in the brand’s storied history.
For the first time, Angostura Bitters and Angostura Tamboo, a balanced spiced rum inspired by Trinidad and Tobago’s carnival spirit, were featured as culinary ingredients in signature food creations. This demonstrated the remarkable versatility of one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most treasured exports.
It was a fitting tribute to an iconic national brand while celebrating the endless possibilities that emerge when culinary artistry meets Caribbean tradition. At the heart of this collaboration is Chef Colette Burnett, whose leadership and innovative spirit serve to motivate entrepreneurs and community members, reinforcing a shared sense of purpose and possibility with her award-winning wings flavors include ginger buff, trini-tamarind, lava, pineapple jerk, merry mango, island bbq, and more.
Best known for defeating celebrity chef Bobby Flay on the Food Network’s Throwdown with Bobby Flay, Burnett has built a reputation that extends far beyond television. Today, she is recognized internationally as an entrepreneur, humanitarian, and advocate working at the intersection of food security, sustainability, economic empowerment, and community development.
As Founder and CEO of Global Food Warrior, Burnett has transformed her culinary platform into a global movement focused on ensuring that food serves not only as nourishment but also as a catalyst for education, economic opportunity, health, and social impact.
Her growing influence continues to expand internationally. Burnett is currently featured in an upcoming Netflix documentary now in production, further highlighting her commitment to using food as a powerful force for cultural preservation, community development, and positive global change.
Colette’s journey to international recognition is anything but conventional. Before becoming an award-winning chef, Burnett built a successful career in business banking, developing expertise in finance, strategic planning, and entrepreneurship. Those business fundamentals would later become the foundation for her culinary success.
Driven by an unwavering passion for food and Caribbean culture, she eventually left the corporate world to pursue her lifelong dream, opening Super Wings in Brooklyn’s vibrant Little Caribbean neighborhood, one of the largest and most influential Caribbean communities in the United States.
What began as a neighborhood restaurant in Brooklyn, New York quickly developed a devoted international following for its bold flavors, innovative recipes, and commitment to quality. More importantly, Super Wings NY became a cultural gathering place where Caribbean traditions, hospitality, and community converged around exceptional food.
The expansion into Trinidad and Tobago represents a meaningful homecoming. Launching the first Caribbean location during Emancipation Weekend carries profound symbolism. The annual celebration commemorates the abolition of slavery while honoring the strength, perseverance, creativity, and cultural contributions of the African descendants who helped shape Trinidad and Tobago into one of the Caribbean’s most vibrant nations.
Against this backdrop, Super Wings NY celebrated not simply the opening of a restaurant but the power of entrepreneurship, and the enduring connections between the Caribbean diaspora and the region itself.
The collaboration with Angostura underscored another important message: Caribbean brands can continue to innovate while honoring centuries of tradition. By integrating Angostura bitters and Angostura rum into culinary award-winning wings and other creations, Burnett demonstrated how iconic regional products can evolve into markets and inspire the next generation of chefs and entrepreneurs.
New CEO of Angostura, Mr. Ian Forbes said, “Chef Burnett has demonstrated the vision to take an ingredient known and respected around the world and use it in a way that creates something new, distinctive and unmistakably her own. That is innovation. Angostura’s collaboration with Super Wings represents an important milestone in the evolution of our iconic brand. For generations, Angostura Bitters has been globally recognised for transforming cocktails. Today, it is driving culinary creativity in professional and home kitchens. We hope Super Wings’ innovation will inspire chefs, restaurateurs and food innovators to discover new ways to incorporate Angostura Bitters into their creations.”
As global interest in Caribbean cuisine continues to grow, initiatives like Super Wings represent more than restaurant expansion. They showcase the Caribbean as a destination for culinary tourism, investment, cultural storytelling, and world-class innovation.
For Burnett, the opening is simply the latest milestone in a much larger mission. Through Global Food Warrior, she continues to champion sustainable food systems, mentor emerging entrepreneurs, advocate for food security, and demonstrate that successful businesses can also serve as engines for community transformation.
The launch of Super Wings NY at Soca Island is a powerful reminder that the Caribbean’s greatest export has always been its people: their creativity, resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, and ability to bring communities together around a table.
