Award-winning entrepreneur and real estate investor Chuck Starks is encouraging Black families to rethink traditional paths to financial success with the release of a newly revised edition of his book, Get Rich While BlackâĤ Without Being an Athlete, Entertainer or Drug Dealer.
Starks, an Inc. 500 award-winning entrepreneur, says the book was written to address the unique financial challenges Black Americans have historically faced while providing practical strategies for building long-term wealth through entrepreneurship, investing and disciplined financial planning.

Rather than focusing on careers in professional sports or entertainment, fields where only a small percentage of people achieve financial success, the author argues that sustainable wealth is more likely to come from business ownership, real estate investment, multiple streams of income and sound money management. He also cautions against pursuing illegal means of making money, emphasizing that such paths often lead to devastating personal and financial consequences.
The revised edition expands on the original publication by incorporating updated examples and insights, including the impact of recent changes in college athletics that allow student-athletes to earn income from their name, image and likeness (NIL). Starks believes these developments could create new financial opportunities for many Black families while reinforcing the importance of financial literacy and long-term planning.
Beyond wealth creation, the book places strong emphasis on generational wealth, encouraging readers to build assets that can be passed on to future generations. Starks argues that financial success should not only improve an individual’s quality of life but also create opportunities and lasting economic security for children and grandchildren.
According to the author, the central message of the book is that lasting financial independence is achievable through knowledge, discipline, and strategic decision-making rather than talent, luck, or celebrity. By providing practical guidance tailored to the realities many Black Americans face, Starks hopes to inspire readers to develop a roadmap toward financial freedom and a lasting family legacy.
