Carib News proudly endorses Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke for re-election to represent New York’s 9th Congressional District.
Congresswoman Clarke comes from a proud pedigree of strong Black women in Brooklyn politics, women deeply devoted to public service, community empowerment, and the advancement of those too often left unheard. She follows in the historic footsteps of the great Shirley Chisholm, whose fearless leadership, independence, and moral courage continue to inspire generations. Chisholm’s declaration that she was “unbought and unbossed” remains one of the clearest statements of political integrity in American public life. In that same spirit, Yvette Clarke has demonstrated a commitment to independence, integrity, and service that the community knows and respects.

She is also the daughter of the distinguished former New York City Council Member Una Clarke, whose decades of public service helped build a powerful foundation for Caribbean American and Black political participation in Brooklyn. From that legacy, Congresswoman Clarke has emerged not merely as a political figure, but as a public servant rooted in the life, concerns, and aspirations of the community she represents.
From her earliest days in public service, Congresswoman Clarke has devoted herself to the work of community development, civic engagement, and representation. Her career has not been accidental. It has been built through years of service, listening, advocacy, and commitment. That dedication and tenacity have now brought her to a position of national leadership, including her role as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, where she works on issues that affect not only our community, but communities across the country.
Congresswoman Clarke stands as the only Black woman in New York’s congressional delegation, and she has used her voice forcefully and consistently on issues that matter deeply to the people of Brooklyn, to Caribbean Americans, to immigrants, and to working families. She has been a strong advocate on immigration, voting rights, Medicare, small business development, economic opportunity, and the daily concerns of ordinary people seeking dignity, security, and progress.
This is a record of service that speaks for itself.
In every election, the community must be alert to efforts that seek to divide, distract, or diminish its political strength. There are always those who enter a race without a record of service to the community, and there are always those who believe that money, privilege, or outside influence can substitute for years of dedication and trust. But this community has shown time and again that it is not for sale. It knows the difference between those who appear at election time and those who have stood with the people over time.
Yvette Clarke is of the community, for the community, and has worked consistently in the interest of the community. She has delivered. She has served with integrity. She has represented Brooklyn with strength, dignity, and purpose. Her leadership continues the proud tradition of Shirley Chisholm, Una Clarke, and the generations of Black women whose public service helped shape the political life of this city and nation.
