Dear Friend of AFUWI,
Last Friday, we gathered at the “The Legacy Continues” scholarship fundraising awards Gala at 583 Park Avenue. The caliber of the room was a direct reflection of the leadership, vision, and commitment of those who champion Caribbean excellence. And yet, even as we celebrate, we cannot stop thinking about the students at The University of the West Indies (UWI) who are at risk.

In the wake of Hurricane Melissa, the need has reached a critical point:
- 5,385 students carry outstanding tuition balances
- 3,189 have no payment plan
- 857 are from the hardest-hit parishes
Most urgent of all:
490 final-year students are within reach of graduation, but US$632,000 stands in their way.
They have done everything right. A financial barrier should not stop them now.
AFUWI is launching an Emergency Graduation Support Campaign to provide direct tuition assistance and ensure that as many of these students as possible can graduate.
Our goal: To help 50 students cross the finish line by completing their program of study and graduating.
Our mission: Converting dreams into degrees.

This extends far beyond tuition, it is about safeguarding years of sacrifice and ensuring that hard-earned progress is not lost at the threshold of opportunity.
Together, let’s help them finish what they started.
Sincerely,
