New York Attorney General Letitia James has formally endorsed Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso in the race to succeed longtime 7th Congressional District Representative Nydia Velázquez.
James, a resident of Clinton Hill and a former New York City public advocate, announced her support on Sunday, praising Reynoso’s record in borough-wide leadership and framing him as a progressive fighter capable of advancing working-class priorities in Washington.

“Antonio Reynoso has delivered real results on affordable housing, good jobs, and justice for our communities as Brooklyn Borough President,” James said. “In Congress, I know he will fight back against the president’s agenda and work for an economy that benefits the working class, not the billionaires. New York needs his progressive leadership in Congress, and I am proud to endorse him.”
A High-Profile Boost in a Competitive Primary
James’ endorsement adds significant weight to Reynoso’s campaign in what is shaping up to be a closely watched Democratic primary in one of the city’s most progressive districts.
Reynoso, who was first elected Brooklyn Borough President in 2021 after serving on the New York City Council, has built his platform around affordable housing expansion, maternal health equity initiatives, and criminal justice reform. As borough president, he has advocated for zoning changes aimed at increasing housing supply and has publicly pushed for policies designed to close racial disparities in maternal mortality rates.
