Alsion Roach-Wison consistently demonstrated perseverance and determination through personal and professional decisions. She was loyal and dedicated to Jamaica, the land of her birth, and made a difference in so many lives.

Consul-General Roach-Wilson was conferred with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander Class, by the Government of Jamaica, a well-deserved recognition of her work and impact.

She worked tirelessly with the Jamaican community taking care of Jamaicans both in New York and in Jamaica during the COVID pandemic. She was unwavering in her support for Sandra Lindsay, the first person in the United States who received the COVID Vaccine. Her care and commitment to serving others extended well outside of her jurisdiction during the pandemic – saving many lives.
The lyrics of the song, “Strength of a Woman” – Shaggy’s words, remind me of Alsion Roach-Wilson’s legacy. On a very personal note, her roles within the community and her own family are aligned with my thoughts and belief that the matriarchal influence continues to be strong.
In addition, Alsion supported the collaboration between the Hartford Health Care Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation and the University of the West Indies, an initiative that would have strengthened the cross fertilization of ideas between a most critical institution and the UWI medical school.
I would be remiss, as a clinician, if I do not take this opportunity to remind all women that up to 80% of the time, the woman is usually the one who discovers the presence of cancer in her breast. Please remember to seek professional help when you find anything after personal examination. We must continue to support our family and friends to seek, obtain and or preserve good health. Continuing the good fight for humanity is non-negotiable!
Alsion Roach-Wilson was a model of strength and resilience as demonstrated by her determination to pursue a career in the global financial sector. I honor her memory not only with words but with the respect that she has earned.
On behalf of the Ferguson and Comrie families, my Maimonides Medical Center family, administrators, Ken Gibbs, CEO, and my chairman, Dr. Scott Chudnoff, I join others in celebrating the life of a special woman, Alsion Roach-Wilson, and mourn her passing with you and with all whose paths she crossed.
I offer my deepest sympathy to her husband, three children, relatives, and friends.
