Considering Venezuela’s ongoing hostility on the border dispute, the United States has reiterated its unshakable support for Guyana. Nicole Theriot, the US ambassador to Guyana, emphasized in her remarks yesterday that her nation is fully committed to supporting Guyana in the face of any threats from the Nicolás Maduro government.
At a recent media event at the Marriott Hotel in Georgetown, Theriot told reporters, “Clearly, we support Guyana 100% against this aggression that is unacceptable, and we won’t allow Venezuela to threaten Guyana’s territory or sovereignty.” She also underlined Washington’s leadership in speaking out against the recent invasion of Guyana’s seas by a Venezuelan coast guard vessel, underscoring the United States’ commitment to Guyana.

Theriot further mentioned, “We will always stand shoulder to shoulder with Guyana in supporting you and defending you.”
The United States is closely monitoring Venezuela’s growing antagonism in the meantime. The situation is “concerning,” according to US National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby, who also reaffirmed Washington’s desire for a peaceful conclusion on March 12, 2025.
“It’s concerning. We’re watching this very, very, very closely,” he noted. He further informed the reporters that “The (1899) arbitral decision needs to be respected. We obviously don’t want to see any violence or conflict occur, and we’re in touch with all our partners.”
