For several decades successive civil rights activists have made representation to the United States government for the exoneration of Marcus Mosiah Garvey. He was convicted for a mail fraud he did not commit, in the United States approximately 100 years ago.
Marcus Garvey, who is Jamaica’s first national hero, served as a civil rights activist, a Black nationalist, a writer, and the person who founded the UNIA, Universal Negro Improvement Association, and African Communities League. He also founded the shipping company the Black Star Line, with the intention of assisting Black people to trade with Africans in the motherland. Thus, encouraging the economic advancement of Blacks.

His ideologies, words of wisdom, and doctrine in general have inspired millions of people around the world, especially in the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.
I, Winston Wellington, was one of those individuals who was inspired and motivated by Garvey’s teachings. His famous quote, “Up you might race, you can accomplish what you will.”, laid the foundation for me to become a successful entrepreneur and hotelier who gave active service at the community level with an aim to help build a better Jamaica.
As a result of my contributions, I was awarded the prestigious Marcus Garvey Award in recognition of my contribution to nation-building based on Garvey’s doctrines. Today, I am a proud Garveyite who joined the millions of Garveyites around the world in celebrating his posthumous pardon by former US President Joe Biden. “One God! One Aim! One Destiny!”
