Black retired policeman Anthony Williams has sued American Airlines for emotional anguish and racial discrimination. He says that during their honeymoon journey, he was falsely accused of human trafficking his white bride, Katsiaryna Shasholka.
A fellow traveler accused Williams of trafficking during the September 2022 American Airlines trip from Phoenix to Miami. As other travelers saw, this resulted in their incarceration by airline employees upon arrival, which caused them much shame.

“Mental pain and suffering, sleeplessness, paranoia, panic attacks, fear, anxiety, embarrassment, and humiliation,” the pair claims, in a recent interview.
The case alleges racial profiling and names American Airlines, the accused passenger, and two airline workers. It was filed in the Southern District of Florida. In response, American Airlines said they plan to examine the allegations to make sure every traveler has a satisfying trip.
A similar case in 2023 involving artist David Ryan Harris, who was accused of trafficking his mixed children, is evocative of this episode. In addition to expressing regret for the event, American Airlines’ reaction to Williams’ case is currently being examined.
